BROER

Engaging a cross-cultural collaborations through dance, KOMA seeks to connect young artists.

The program features a double bill: ‘Men In Coats’ by Tim Rushton, a choreographic gem that takes the stage again after 13 years, danced to the melodies of New York composer Philip Glass. In addition, ‘Hu.ga’ by Alex Soares, drawing from the Danish expression “hygge.” Like the Brazilian word “saudade,” “hygge” has no exact translation but conveys a deep emotional state. The performance celebrates cultural exchange with dancers from both countries on stage.

MEN IN COATS

Men in Coats is a choreographic gem created by Tim Rushton. The work is danced to the tunes of the New York-based composer Philip Glass.
The piece premiered in 2010, a year before Tim Rushton was awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to dance.
The play, originally created for Danks DanseTeater, takes the stage with a new and promising cast, who have the chance to work for the first time with the internationally recognized and award-winning choreographer.

HU.GA

“Hu.ga” is the phonetic transcription of the Danish word “hygge”, which expresses a feeling of coziness, comfort, affection and intimacy.

Just as for us Brazilians the word ‘saudade’ does not have a precise translation in other languages, the Danish expression hygge cannot be translated either.

A possible attempt to explain ‘hygge’ is that of a concept that may be close to a state of intimacy of the soul.

The “Hu.ga” choreography also celebrates the meeting between Brazilian and Danish cultures. The guest cast from Koma Ballet, Alberte Mouritsen and Severin Raun, join the dancers from Cia Jovem de Jundiaí to bring this unique experience into stage.

The choreography is signed by Alex Soares, in close collaboration with the cast.
